Starting A Carpet Cleaning Business

There are heaps of options out there for starting your own home business. Some may tickle your fancy and some may not. One you may not have considered, is starting your own carpet cleaning business.

The other day, we had to hire a carpet cleaning business to do our carpets before we moved out of our dorm room. Our carpets were so dirty that I'm ashamed to even think about it, as dirty as a year of two boys living on their own for the first time like animals and partying incessantly can make it. The carpet cleaning business charged a pretty penny, although not as much as I might have expected. It was only a couple hundred dollars, and when they were done, the carpet was even cleaner when when we moved in.

That doesn't say that much. It seemed like a carpet cleaning business hadn't come to clean the room for several years before (if ever), and the accumulated detritus of years of poor maintenance had discolored the carpets to a mottled gray color. We didn't care – we filled the place with beer bottles and smelly gym socks anyway. But still, on parent visiting day, it was always kind of embarassing. Even with days of preparation, we couldn't get the place in shape.

Before we called the carpet cleaning business, we had just had our farewell party and were packing out to leave for the year. It was quite the bash, one for the record books, as my coach used to say. We even had a band play, and guests from all over the hall – and all in our dorm room. We were up quite late drinking, and by the end, knew that a carpet cleaning business was badly needed from the mottled and dirty appearance of the pitiful floor.

There was beer spilled everywhere, a particular virulent spot where someone was sick, and one place that smelled strangely of body odor. It was nauseating to even be in that room after the party, and move out day was only two days away. Well, needless to say, we panicked, afraid that if we didn't call the carpet cleaning business in time, there would never be any way where we could get the room cleaned and get our security deposits back.

I had seen some grungy looking dorm rooms before that point, but this place was the pits. There were even cigarette ashes spilled in the corner, not to mention some kind of bright red fruit punch. Our carpet was so polka dotted, it could have served as an outfit for a clown, but a very sad clown he would have been, having to wear such a stinky set of clothing.

The carpet cleaning guys did a good job, and as the room wasn't too big (although it was incredibly filthy) they did a great job. And, it struck me that their profit wasn't bad either! So I thought to myself, maybe one day I'll start my own carpet cleaning business!
